Political analyst Vasily Koltashov commented to Alpha News on the talks between the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran.

“The talks between the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran mean that Russia, both in the UN Security Council and through its diplomatic work, will insist on a peaceful resolution of the military conflict in the Persian Gulf zone and beyond. In doing so, Russia will proceed from Iran’s positions. That is, as can be understood from the exchange between the two ministers, the emphasis will be placed on the need to resolve the crisis in a way that takes Iran’s interests into account,” Koltashov said.

According to the analyst, Iran has come under aggression and is compelled to respond.

“Iran is being bombed and is forced to respond — to take measures, including striking its neighbors, in order to prevent the formation of a ground force, which Donald Trump had spoken about. He had mentioned the possibility of a ground operation, meaning an invasion of Iran. From Iran’s perspective, this means that everything capable of facilitating such an invasion must be destroyed. By this logic, Iran is moving toward achieving its goals: the demilitarization and ‘de-Americanization’ of the region by dismantling anything that could serve as a base for a ground invasion,” Koltashov concluded.
