The US is trying to find a way out: escalation also threatens Armenia — Menua Soghomonyan
Against the backdrop of events in the Middle East, the US leadership is trying to find a way out of the current situation. This was stated by Menua Soghomonyan, a board and council member of the national civic union HayaQve, in an interview with Alpha News.
In his view, Washington is seeking a solution that will cause minimal damage to its political standing.
“They are hoping that a way out will be found that doesn’t hurt their ratings too badly, and that this war, which is extremely detrimental to us, will come to an end,” Soghomonyan said.
At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of the conflict continuing, which could create new risks for Armenia. According to Soghomonyan, the greatest danger would arise if the war intensifies and develops into a large-scale escalation.
“If the escalation deepens and, especially if ground operations begin, Iran will concentrate its forces on resistance, which could allow the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem to forcibly open the ‘Zangezur Corridor,'” Soghomonyan stressed.
He added that this scenario represents one of the most serious security threats facing Armenia. Beyond the military dangers, Soghomonyan also pointed to economic risks, and in particular to the possibility of supply chain disruption.
“Our connecting routes run mainly through Georgia and Iran. Although the Georgian route is of far greater importance, shipments passing through the Persian Gulf also matter,” he noted.
