One of the cited reasons for the growth of Armenia’s external debt is arms procurement. This was stated several months ago by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the National Assembly, responding to opposition criticism.

Residents of Armavir who took part in the poll noted that this raises a puzzling question: who is Pashinyan buying weapons for, if he constantly insists that he does not want war?

“I have a very negative view of every step taken by the current authorities,” said one respondent, adding that photos of missing soldiers had been removed from a memorial in their community. The move has prompted bewilderment and discontent among local residents.

“Why were they removed? Are they afraid even of these photographs?” an Armavir resident asked indignantly.
