Moscow will respond to Baku through diplomatic channels. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova when commenting on the reaction to a statement by Azerbaijan’s foreign policy ministry.

Azerbaijan had earlier lodged a protest over the discussion of the Karabakh issue at the meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Zakharova recalled that Russia and its leadership played a key role in settling the conflict. According to her, Moscow had for decades worked to create the conditions for resolving this sensitive issue. In recent years, Yerevan and Baku chose to conduct their dialogue directly, without intermediaries, and Russia respected that format.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted, a great deal of work still lies ahead before the normalization process becomes irreversible. She also stressed that the closure of the settlement track was formalized by the decision to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group — a decision Moscow supported.
