Egypt has released a commemorative stamp sheet marking the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, featuring a portrait of diplomat of Armenian origin Boghos Bey Yusufian.
“This is not merely a stamp issue, but a token of appreciation for the long history of partnership and complementarity between Egyptians and Armenians,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Boghos Bey Yusufian (1775–1844) was a prominent Egyptian statesman of Armenian origin, widely regarded as the founder of modern Egyptian diplomacy. He was the closest associate and confidant of Egypt’s ruler Muhammad Ali Pasha.
