Avetik Chalabyan, coordinator of the HayaQve union council, and Anna Kostanyan, head of the foreign relations commission, made an official visit to Brussels at the invitation of European Parliament member Gerolf Annemans. There they held meetings and discussions with a number of leading members of the pan-European parliamentary group Patriots for Europe and representatives of their staff.

Meetings were held in particular with Virginia Jouroni of the French delegation, Paolo Borchia, head of the Italian delegation, Tiago Moreira de Sá of the Portuguese delegation, and Gerolf Annemans, head of the Belgian delegation. The HayaQve delegation was also received by Tom Van Grieken, chairman of the Belgian opposition party Vlaams Belang.

The discussions covered the prospects for long-term EU–Armenia cooperation, the EU’s role in the South Caucasus region, the need to maintain balanced relations with other centers of power, the right of return for the Armenian population of Artsakh and the EU’s political role in that matter, the advancement of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and the need for genuine democratic reforms in Armenia.

Avetik Chalabyan also took part in a televised debate organized by the parliamentary group, presenting the above topics in detail to a European audience.

The contacts established with the European Parliament delegations will be continued, and a number of joint programs will be developed and implemented.
