Declining role of the Diaspora is a result of divisive policies: Masis Abrahamyan
The Diaspora today is no longer fully performing the role it should have in Armenia’s development and in organizing the life of the Armenian people. This was stated in an interview with Alpha News by Masis Abrahamyan, chairman of the Armenian Cause Committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun in the Netherlands. According to him, this trend has been especially noticeable since the change of government in 2018.
“This government, in essence, came to power to divide not only the Armenian people but also the Diaspora,” he emphasized.
Abrahamyan recalled that in the past, despite the ideological diversity within the Diaspora, it was possible to unite around nationwide issues.
“We were able to cooperate even with our ideological opponents when it came to national problems,” he noted.
According to Abrahamyan, the Netherlands had long been one of the important centers of activity for the Armenian Cause, but since 2018, a “deliberate policy of division” has significantly weakened the effectiveness of this work.
He also criticized the activities of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs.
“Instead of engaging with organizations that have spent decades preserving Armenian identity, they prefer to establish ties with other circles, further deepening the divide,” Abrahamyan said.
