This is Russia’s warning to the Baltic states regarding possible consequences: Alexey Mukhin
Alexey Mukhin, a political analyst, commented to Alpha News on the statement by Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, regarding the inadmissibility of launching Ukrainian drones either from the territory of the Baltic states or through their territory.
“This is not a statement, it is a warning from the Foreign Intelligence Service, as well as from the key actors of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, and from Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev specifically, regarding the inevitable consequences that will follow if such actions are carried out. The Baltic states have, in my view, already responded quite adequately. One of them even shot down a Ukrainian drone using an F-16, for which it earned a formal protest from Ukraine. That was the right move on their part, although it correlates poorly with the bellicose statements of their politicians. It is entirely obvious here that the statements of politicians are, to put it mildly, irrelevant and are a manifestation of the political inferiority complex that many in the Baltics suffer from with regard to Russia,” Mukhin stressed.
In the political analyst’s view, NATO countries are probing the capabilities of Russia’s air defense, and such actions carry the risk of potential conflict.
“This is a fairly long-term tactic on the part of NATO member states, because they are constantly testing Russia’s air defense capabilities and Russia’s ability to respond adequately, symmetrically or asymmetrically, to various challenges. The target is the Baltic, which NATO wants to turn into its own internal sea, and it is for this purpose that it is using provocations of this kind. They are mapping out a certain contour of what they can and cannot do. A fairly self-contained and quite definite picture is gradually emerging of exactly how NATO member states intend to blockade the Baltic and turn it into their internal sea, and Russia absolutely cannot allow them to do so. In this regard, NATO member states are speaking of the possibility, the prospect, of direct confrontation, and on this point they are quite serious,” the expert concluded.
