Armenian wrestler Janes Nazaryan has received prestigious recognition from United World Wrestling (UWW). The organization included the 16-year-old in its list of the month’s top wrestlers and named him the best Greco-Roman wrestler of May.
The accolade follows his outstanding performance at the U17 European Championships, where he won the gold medal and went through the entire tournament without conceding a single point. Across five bouts, he compiled a combined score of 37–0, demonstrating complete dominance.
On his way to the title, the Armenian wrestler defeated a Romanian opponent 6–0, a Moldovan wrestler 8–0, a Russian competitor 9–0, an Italian wrestler 10–0, and in the final overcame a representative of Georgia 4–0.
The recognition is particularly significant given the packed international wrestling calendar in May. The month featured the U23 and U17 Asian Championships, the Senior Pan-American Championships, as well as the U17 and U15 European Championships. Among all these major events, Nazaryan’s performance was singled out by UWW as one of the most impressive.
