Alpha News spoke with Gevorg Hakobjyan, a member of the governing council of the Western Region office of the “Hai Dat” Committee and an attorney, about the parliamentary elections held on June 7 in Armenia, recent domestic political developments, and the legal and security risks associated with the TRIPP project.

According to him, an attempt was made to frame the parliamentary elections as a contest between pro-Russian and pro-Western forces.

“With regard to these elections, the first thing that needs to be analyzed is the polarized atmosphere that prevailed both in Armenia and in the diaspora. On the positive side, one can note the increase in voter turnout, which indicates that the public understood the gravity of the moment. However, there were many vulnerabilities in this process, from the aggressive language used by the ruling wing to the political persecution and arrests of opposition leaders. An attempt was made to present all of this as a struggle between pro-Russian and pro-Western forces, which is itself a mistaken framing. This was a choice between a pro-Armenian and a non-pro-Armenian course,” Hakobjyan noted.
