Recognition of the Armenian Genocide by various countries is often driven not by a desire to restore historical justice, but by the goal of exerting political pressure on Turkey. This was stated by Gevorg Bagratuni, Chairman of the National United Armenia organization, in an interview with Alpha News.

“Many states recognize the Armenian Genocide not for the sake of recognition itself, but as a means of pressuring Ankara. Israel’s current move is also a signal to Turkey, and further developments will depend on its reaction,” he noted in conversation with Alpha News.

Bagratuni also touched on the stance of Armenia’s authorities, stating that the current leadership does not regard international recognition of the Armenian Genocide as a priority in normalizing relations with Turkey.

“Today the situation has developed such that even we, Armenians of the Diaspora, are asking ourselves: does Armenia want the Genocide to be recognized, or not,” he added.
