Russia will respond to piracy in kind, the Pacific Fleet is handling its tasks: Vladimir Putin

Vladimir Putin spoke at the closing stage of military exercises in the Far East, outlining Russia’s key positions. He described attempts to seize Russian merchant vessels as piracy and armed robbery, stressing that Moscow would respond in kind, not only in the waters where attacks occur, but wherever it deems necessary, including the area of responsibility of the Pacific Fleet.

The President noted the growing potential for conflict in the Asia-Pacific region: NATO is making inroads there, new military-political blocs are being formed, and weapons threatening Russia are being deployed. He drew attention to rising tensions in the Arctic, where Moscow has traditionally advocated cooperation, and said he would like to understand the position of Japan, which has imposed sanctions and listed Russia among sources of threats. At the same time, Putin stressed that Russia does not threaten Japan and has no claims against it, whereas it is Tokyo that has territorial claims against Moscow.

The head of state declared Russia’s readiness to cooperate with all its neighbors in the Far East, including Japan, and stressed that while Moscow is strengthening its security, it remains ready to seek compromises based on mutual interests.

Separately, Putin highlighted the role of the Pacific Fleet, which is fully handling the tasks assigned to it. He said marines are operating boldly and professionally in the special military operation zone, handling any combat tasks. The President assured that proposals to strengthen the fleet would be supported.
