Andrey Nikulin: This is a cynical and harsh example of the Azerbaijani policy implementation
Political analyst Andrey Nikulin commented to Alpha News on the information about the possible opening of the Lachin corridor unilaterally.
According to him, Baku wants to take advantage of the unbearable situation in Karabakh to implement its plans.
“Baku understands that the moral situation in Artsakh is now unbearable in all directions. The humanitarian crisis, the economic situation, the shortage of food and medication, all this creates an opportunity for Baku to open a one-way gate.
Thus, according to Azerbaijan, the majority of the population of Karabakh will leave the region realizing that the question of surrender is a matter of time. Azerbaijan will benefit if the main part of the activists, supporters of independence leaves, so that the subsequent process of annexation of Karabakh will be hushed and quiet as possible.
This is the cynical but understandable logic of the Baku leadership. For the publicity, it is not profitable for Aliyev to have the entire population of Karabakh flee. In his ideal picture, there will be several thousand residents, mostly retired and socially unprotected people, who simply have nowhere to go and whom Aliyev will then show to international observers,” Nikulin said.
