Alexey Mukhin, political analyst and director of the Center for Political Information, commented to Alpha News on the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the possible termination of the concession agreement with Russia for the South Caucasus Railway (SCR).

“Pashinyan’s statements on the South Caucasus Railway are, above all, provocative. The status of this project is fully documented, and it can only be changed through a court. Perhaps Pashinyan is counting on exactly that, I don’t know. Representatives of the Russian leadership, primarily the Cabinet of Ministers, have assured that this is impossible. Russia may agree or disagree with the Armenian authorities’ proposal, but the Armenian authorities are unlikely to act alone. Why? Because this would create a dangerous precedent on the market and could lead to an uncontrolled collapse of relations between Russia and Armenia,” Mukhin believes.

According to the expert, the actions of Armenia’s prime minister may be coordinated with European partners.

“Announcing so-called nationalization, or even expropriation, is impossible. These are unlawful actions. They will be challenged, and, judging by everything, the fines will be quite serious.

I suspect that Nikol Pashinyan has certain instructions from his European handlers, and he is acting in accordance with them. If they call on him to create tension for Russian projects on Armenian territory, he creates it,” the interlocutor of Alpha News concluded.
