Henrikh Mkhitaryan, an Armenian midfielder, was one of the main heroes of the third matchday of the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 league phase, in which Milan’s Inter beat Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at home.
The match took place on October 21 at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium in Milan. The only goal came in the 77th minute from an assist by Mkhitaryan, who had come on just two minutes earlier.
The situation became difficult for the Italian club in the 68th minute, when Alessandro Bastoni, a defender, received a second yellow card, leaving Inter a man down. In the 75th minute, Cristian Chivu, Inter’s head coach, brought on Mkhitaryan in place of Ange-Yoan Bonny. Two minutes later, the 37-year-old Armenian made a superb assist for Carlos Augusto, who sent the ball into the net of the Ukrainian team.
Mkhitaryan thus played a direct part in the victory over his former club.
As a reminder, the Armenian midfielder played for Shakhtar Donetsk from 2010 to 2013 before moving to Borussia Dortmund
