The city authorities of Nice have proposed granting honorary citizenship to Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, Nouvelles d’Arménie reports.
According to the outlet, this symbolic step demonstrates the support and solidarity of the French city’s authorities.
Portraits of the prisoners, including members of Artsakh’s military and political leadership, were hung on the gates of City Hall during a rally attended by Eric Ciotti, Mayor of Nice. The action is meant to draw attention to the plight of the 20 Armenians held in Baku prisons.
Representatives of the Armenian community of Nice also presented the history of the Artsakh conflict and the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan in September 2023.
