Oleg Blokhin, a Russian military expert, spoke to Alpha News about the likelihood of a new US strike on Iran and the possibility of Washington using tactical nuclear weapons.

In his view, a new US strike on Iran is highly likely. He links this to the military preparations of the United States and its allies, as well as to the lack of any agreement between Washington and Tehran.

“Judging by the preparations of the United States and its allies, a strike on Iran should be expected, and with a very high degree of probability. Most likely, the strike will come as soon as the election is over. Trump needs to bring this to an end: reaching a face-saving deal isn’t working out, so the only option left is to continue the military operation. Especially since Israel is pushing very hard for it,” Blokhin said.

The military expert also assessed the likelihood of tactical nuclear weapons being used. According to him, such a scenario cannot be ruled out, especially if the US operation runs into serious difficulties.

“As for the use of tactical nuclear weapons, it’s 50/50. The public is being warmed up to the idea, so to speak, and the Iranians are mentally prepared for it. Feelers have already been put out in advance to see how the global media and the public react. The reaction has been rather lethargic. There’s no real condemnation, no real horror at the statements about a possible tactical nuclear strike,” Oleg Blokhin noted.

Blokhin stressed that using such weapons could have serious consequences, including loss of life and radioactive contamination. In his assessment, potential targets could include not only military sites but also critical economic and energy facilities.

“If everything goes according to plan for the United States, there will be no need to use them. If they start to stall significantly, then I think they may well decide to use tactical nuclear weapons. They definitely won’t be used at the start. But as things unfold, there’s a 50/50 chance the Americans will decide to use them,” Oleg Blokhin concluded.
