For the first time in the 20-year history of Roméo and Juliette, the most famous French musical, Damien Sargue, who played the role of Romeo, was replaced by another actor, a 20-year-old of Armenian origin Hakob Ghasabyan, known to the European audience for the French The Voice project.

The cast has been touring China for 4 months on the stages of two dozen Chinese cities.
Armenian Romeo won the hearts of thousands of spectators. Hakob spoke live with Alpha News and noted that the opportunity given to him was a real surprise. He considers himself very lucky.

“The daughter of the musical composer and libretto writer Gérard Presgurvic, now the producer of this project, personally contacted me a few months ago and offered the role of Roméo. Well, Damien Sargue is in his 40s and too old for the role. Damien has been playing Roméo for 20 years, and he personally told me that he wanted to find a worthy replacement for this musical,” Hakob said, at the same time, modestly noting that he does not consider himself a singer of Sargue’s level.

Due to the impossibility of showing and distributing the copyrighted video of the musical, Hakob performed Roméo’s part of the song “Aimer” live on Alpha News.

“Roméo and Juliette” was adapted by Gérard Presgurvic based on the Shakespeare’s tragedy. It was first staged in 2001 in Paris, after which it was presented in 46 countries around the world.
