Ethnic Armenian members of the Abkhazian Parliament, Galust Trapizonyan, Ashot Minasyan, Erik Rshtuni, and Levon Galustyan, commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recognition of the territorial integrity of Georgia.

“After the tragedy in Artsakh, when the current Armenian authorities doomed 120 thousand of its own citizens living in Nagorno-Karabakh to eviction, Pashinyan’s last speech could have been left without comment, but the statement of support for the territorial integrity of Georgia sounded too cynical. It is cynical not because the Republic of Abkhazia, being an independent state, has nothing to do with sovereign Georgia, but because a couple of years ago Yerevan loudly declared that Artsakh is Armenia and will not allow any encroachments of Azerbaijan on the territory of Karabakh,” the MPs said.

Earlier, the President of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, called Pashinyan’s statement contrary to the fact of Abkhazia’s sovereignty. He reminded Pashinyan that Abkhazia respects the entire Armenian people, some of whom found their salvation from the tragic events of the past in Abkhazia.

“Armenians in Abkhazia have everything that Pashinyan could not guarantee to the Armenians of Karabakh, who, as a result of his policy, faced the tragedy of the collapse of statehood and mass exodus from their native land,” Bzhania stressed, adding that the consequence of Pashinyan’s policy was the violation of the territorial integrity of Armenia itself.

Bzhania called on the Armenian leadership to “abandon indoctrinated rhetoric and start taking into account the actual state of affairs in its foreign policy.”
