Konstantin Dolgov: Georgia is now pursuing a courageous policy in the face of Western pressure
Konstantin Dolgov, Russian Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, commented to Alpha News on the role of Western pressure on the South Caucasus region, in particular on Georgia.
According to the Russian politician, the Georgian government is now trying to resist powerful Western pressure, and this is an important factor in stabilizing the situation in the Caucasus.
“Now we see that the Georgian government is trying to resist the most powerful Western pressure—absolutely frantic pressure—that the West is exerting on Tbilisi, including through some Georgian politicians, starting with the President of Georgia. Thus, the West wants to push Tbilisi towards participation in the anti-Russian coven. However, the Georgian government does not want confrontation with Russia; on the contrary, it wants to trade and be friends. So, the Georgian government is now pursuing a fairly balanced and courageous policy in the face of Western pressure. If this continues, this will be an important factor in stabilizing the situation in the Caucasus and preventing destabilizing Western intervention,” he said.
“Russia has centuries-old ties with all the states of the Caucasus region, not only because we were one country for a long time, but also because, before and after that, our ties were not interrupted but only strengthened. Therefore, our strength in this region, first of all, is in the ties between our peoples,” Dolgov concluded.
