The Armenian government will appeal to the Constitutional Court to determine whether the obligations undertaken under the international agreement on the TRIPP project comply with the Constitution.

The bill on ratifying the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation between Armenia and the United States on the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project was approved at a cabinet meeting on July 16. If the Constitutional Court rules that the obligations enshrined in the agreement comply with the Constitution, the government’s legislative initiative will be submitted to parliament for ratification through the established procedure.

Ararat Mirzoyan, Foreign Minister of Armenia, said that in order to complete the documentation process for the project, an agreement between the shareholders and the charter of the company that will implement the project still need to be signed. According to him, “Armenia and the United States are focused on developing transport communication in the South Caucasus, developing transport infrastructure and global and regional trade, as well as strengthening the peace established in the region.” He added that the project is being implemented with full respect for Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction, including on the issue of border control.
