Armenia’s future is being decided today, and the people must understand the value of their vote: Masis Abrahamyan
The Armenian people once again stand before a pivotal choice, and the upcoming elections could prove decisive for the country’s future. Masis Abrahamyan, adviser to the Hay Dat Committee, said this in an interview with Alpha News.
“Over the past century, Armenia has repeatedly found itself in difficult and critical situations, and today is another pivotal moment for Armenia and the Armenian people. If we look at our history, especially over the last hundred years, we can see that one defining period has followed another,” Abrahamyan said.
He also compared Armenia’s political culture with the electoral processes in a number of Western countries, noting that political competition there is largely based on programs and ideas.
“Each party presents its platform, and careful calculations are made regarding how much that platform will cost taxpayers. People go to the polls based on those programs,” he said.
According to Abrahamyan, political competition in Armenia is often shifted into the realm of personal conflicts and radical rhetoric.
“There have almost never been genuine debates in Armenia. Everything is always taken to extremes. No one really talks about what program they have, how they plan to save the economy, or what they will do for the country. Instead, one person threatens to destroy another,” he said.
Adviser to the Hay Dat Committee emphasized that although he and his family live in the Diaspora and do not have the right to vote, they follow political developments in Armenia with great attention and concern.
