On October 22, the Cultural Alfabeta Cinema in Montevideo, Uruguay, hosted the screening of Aurora’s Sunrise, with Armenian director Inna Sahakyan attending the event.
The event was organized by Consejo Causa Armenia of Uruguay.
During the event, Eduardo Kozanlian, responsible for the restoration of the original tapes, thanked Uruguay for the warm welcome.
“Today we have two brave Armenian women here with us, one of them is Aurora, who looks at us from heaven and calls us to remember since people who forget are doomed to disappear. Our other Armenian heroine is also present here today. This is Inna Sahakyan, who continues Aurora’s cause through this extraordinary movie,” he said.
Aurora’s Sunrise tells the terrifying story of Aurora Mardiganian, an Armenian girl who survived the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
When the massacre began, Aurora was 14 and lived in a small town in the Ottoman Empire. Thanks to her willpower and determination in 1917, the girl found salvation in the USA.
