Baku summoned the ambassadors of Belgium and the Netherlands to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, filing a formal protest over resolutions adopted by those countries’ parliaments on April 16. The ministry’s statement noted that the documents contain “false and unsubstantiated assessments” that undermine Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and interfere with the peace process with Armenia. Specifically, the ministry rejected accusations of violations of Armenians’ rights and unlawful detentions.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the adoption of these documents coincided with contacts between the speakers of the Azerbaijani and Armenian parliaments, which it deemed telling. Brussels and The Hague were called upon to take action against anti-Azerbaijani groups operating within their parliaments.
