On the night of June 17, the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran resulted in large-scale airstrikes and rocket attacks from both sides. The Israeli Air Force targeted the Natanz nuclear center, a key uranium enrichment site. Sources report significant damage, but Iran has not officially confirmed any destruction.
In response, Iran launched more than 200 rockets toward Israel. Some of them reached military facilities and residential areas, despite active interception by Israeli missile defense systems. The strikes in Israel killed at least 4 people and injured more than 70. Iran reports 78 dead, but these figures may increase as information is clarified.
Israeli authorities have heightened security measures, declaring a state of high alert, expecting more attacks from Iran. Iron Dome systems and other air defense systems continue to repel the strikes. In Israel, residential buildings, a power plant and an oil refinery were hit. In Iran, the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was struck, which could lead to further retaliatory strikes.
The US has engaged Patriot and THAAD systems to defend Israel. The UN Security Council is preparing for an emergency meeting on the situation and the IAEA has expressed concern over the attack on nuclear facilities. The international community is urging the parties to reach a diplomatic settlement, but the likelihood of de-escalation remains low for now.
