Israel’s night strike showed that Iran’s nuclear program has not been completely dismantled, as it is extremely difficult to do so, political scientist Hayk Ter-Nersisyan told Alpha News.

“There is no force above the superpowers that could dictate what they do—there is global anarchy in the world. The logic of decision-makers, whether in the US, Russia, or China, is centered on ensuring their country’s security. Therefore, they continue to arm themselves and use intelligence to obtain information about their adversaries,” he noted.

According to the political scientist, Iran understands that possessing nuclear weapons is critical to its security and is seeking to strengthen its position.

“From Israel’s perspective, if another player has nuclear weapons, the balance changes and its own security becomes more vulnerable,” he added.

Speaking about the impact of Iranian-Israeli tensions on the global economy, Ter-Nersisyan stressed that the situation has become catastrophic.

“There are no clear winners. During such conflicts, oil prices rise, and this only benefits the oil-producing countries,” he said.

According to him, Iran is very close to possessing nuclear weapons. When asked whether it is possible that it already has them, the political scientist responded:

“If Iran had nuclear weapons, Israel would be much more cautious. One way out of this situation is either Iran abandoning its nuclear program, which I think is unlikely, or regime change.”
