Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Alexander Krylov commented on the confrontation between the Armenian authorities and the Armenian Apostolic Church. According to the expert, regardless of the current Armenian government’s motives, interference in the affairs of the church is a violation of the Armenian Constitution.

“The Armenian Apostolic Church has always played a fundamentally important role in preserving the Armenian nation. This has lasted for many centuries. In fact, Armenian self-consciousness has been preserved only thanks to the Armenian Apostolic Church. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Armenian Constitution stated that the Armenian Church is of fundamental importance for the Armenian state. At the same time, Armenia is a secular state and the church is separated from the state, thus, it should not interfere in the affairs of the state, and the state does not have the right to interfere in church affairs either. This is a violation of the Constitution. So, regardless of the motives of the current authorities, this is a gross violation of the Armenian Constitution,” Krylov said.

According to the political scientist, these developments align with a broader globalist agenda, which denies all national values, offering instead the ultra-liberal values of the global world.

“I wouldn’t limit this issue, as many experts do, to internal Armenian affairs, upcoming elections, or similar factors. The problem here is much broader, because we are seeing a crackdown on Orthodoxy in Ukraine. The same thing is now beginning in Moldova, where the Orthodox Church is accused of being an agent of Russia, and therefore its activities are now being restricted. So this is a general trend across the post-Soviet space. It is consistent with the policy of globalism, which denies all national values, offering instead the ultra-liberal values of the global world. These are all those who advocate for Soros and part of the world oligarchy. Supporters of globalism are pursuing a religious policy in the direction in which it is possible to limit or even destroy traditional religions and traditional cultures and, instead of them, to impose liberal values and a Western-style common culture,” Krylov concluded.
