Iran-US agreement remains under threat due to Israel’s position: Pyotr Kolchin

Political scientist and military expert Pyotr Kolchin commented to Alpha News on the conclusion of a peace deal between Iran and the US.
“Of course, the agreements between Iran and the US are being born in difficulty, contradiction, and a very complicated dialogue, because it’s important for the US to create at least the appearance of some success, while for Iran it’s important to defend its national interests. It appears that Tehran and Washington have found a format that generally suits all sides. However, difficulties may arise in aligning positions with Tel Aviv. Over the past month, we’ve seen Israel behaving quite provocatively and aggressively, trying to destabilize the situation on the Lebanese front, which in turn is part of the overall settlement. Iran, for its part, made the cessation of military action specifically around Beirut one of the important points of the agreement,” the expert noted.
According to the political scientist, Tehran views the US and Israel as a single side and builds its negotiating position accordingly, including its demands and the conditions for fulfilling them.
“At the same time, we see that the American administration has less and less ability to influence the position of Netanyahu and Israel, who could try to derail the agreements again at any moment. Moreover, it’s extremely difficult for Washington to distance itself from Israel. Tehran perceives them as a single side and largely builds its negotiating position around this, including its demands and the conditions for fulfilling them. So there’s certainly a great deal of work still ahead, and an enormous number of risks remain. Israel could derail the agreements, try to pull them in its own favor, and continue pushing its own line. It appears Tel Aviv has no intention of stopping, regardless of this position,” Kolchin said.
