Studies have shown that only 3,900 medicines are registered in Armenia and approved for sale. This was stated at a press conference by Narek Karapetyan, head of the Strong Armenia faction.
According to Karapetyan, this restriction and the small number of companies operating on the market lead to a lack of competition and high prices.
As an example, he cited metformin, a drug used to treat diabetes, stressing that its price in Georgia is about half as high.
“In Georgia it costs about 920 drams, and in Armenia 1,700. Georgia is only 30 km from us, but medicines there are half the price,” Karapetyan said.
