Memorial and khachkar near St. Nerses Shnorhali Church vandalized in Montevideo

The Central Administrative Council of the Armenian Diocese of Uruguay regretfully reports that on October 5, the Great Martyrs Memorial and the khachkar honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-23 were vandalized.

53 bronze letters were broken and removed from the monument, with the concrete wall framing the sculpture by the artist Nerses Ounanian and the khachkar ornament being damaged.

The Central Administrative Council of the Diocese submitted a report to the police and used all the means at its disposal to identify the perpetrators.

At the same time, the planning of restoration works necessary to fix the damage is underway.
