Meeting in Istanbul has confirmed that each new proposal from Putin is worse than the previous one – Pashinyan should take note

June 04 2025, 17:00

The second round of direct talks between representatives of Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul the day before. The negotiations lasted about an hour—half as long as the first round in May. The parties exchanged memoranda in which they outlined their visions for ending the conflict.

The Russian memorandum confirmed a simple truth: every next proposal by Vladimir Putin is worse than the previous one. Putin’s proposals for 2025 are much harsher than those in 2022. If we analyze them in more detail, the Russian memorandum is actually forcing Ukraine to surrender.

If we study the dynamics of the conflict, since 2014, every stage of the confrontation between Russia, the West, and Ukraine has seen Moscow progressively tighten its conditions.

The conflict over Ukraine should serve as an “open textbook” for the political elite of any post-Soviet country. It is always possible to build relations with the West, but “friendship” against Moscow is fraught with serious problems for any state.
Do the Armenian authorities understand this? Do they realize that “every new Russian proposal is worse than the previous one”? Do they understand the core principle of security indivisibility?

The reality around us shows that the Armenian authorities are not even trying to draw conclusions from the Ukrainian events. Moreover, if we carefully study the theses of the pro-Pashinyan propaganda in the framework of the “crusade” against the Armenian Apostolic Church, we can conclude that a number of actors explicitly state: “The problem with the church is that Pashinyan and his entourage perceive the Armenian Apostolic Church as a partner of Russia,” which means the church is under attack.

In other words, official Yerevan, based on its own perception of the processes, purposefully intensifies the conflict with Moscow.

Thus, a logical question arises: who is Pashinyan counting on in his confrontation with Russia?
– The United States? Washington is currently looking for opportunities for in-depth cooperation with Moscow. Axios writes that the Donald Trump administration is increasingly seeking to shift strategic attention from Ukraine to other urgent priorities, especially in the Pacific region.
– Turkey? Recep Tayyip Erdogan may cede Pashinyan in exchange for a “gas hub with Russia” or even for the unhindered export of Turkish agricultural products to Russia.
– Ilham Aliyev? The realities of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, where London’s influence is becoming increasingly evident, suggest that the question of how to avoid conflict with Russia by preserving the current borders may soon become relevant for Aliyev.

The situation is steadily moving towards a conclusion, and the closer the end is, the more emotional Pashinyan’s reaction will be. This means that we will see even more strategic miscalculations on his part.

Think about it.…
