Scandal in the US elderly care sector: a lawyer’s warning to the Armenian community
A major scandal has recently erupted in the United States involving elderly care centers, and the Armenian community has also been caught up in fraudulent schemes. This was stated in a conversation with Alpha News by Armen Tashchyan, attorney and vice chairman of the Pro-Bono Committee of the Armenian Bar Association. According to him, the issue is both legal and political in nature and directly concerns the Armenian community.
“From a political standpoint, the following can be noted: Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), published a video linking major healthcare fraud in Los Angeles to criminal groups attributed to Armenians,” the attorney emphasized.
He added that Armenians in the US must be especially vigilant when choosing elderly care centers and must protect their community from political attacks.
“If elderly Armenians in the US receive dual benefits from Medicare and Medicaid, it means payments come from two sources: federal and state. In other words, the facilities they turn to receive double reimbursement. Therefore, people entrusting the care of their elderly relatives to such centers or medical facilities must be extremely cautious so as not to fall victim to fraud,” Tashchyan noted.
