A statue honoring Soghomon Tehlirian, the fighter of the Armenian national liberation movement and national avenger, is set to be inaugurated in the district of Beaumont, Marseille, France, on March 15.
On March 15, 1921, in Berlin, Armenian revolutionary Soghomon Tehlirian assassinated Talaat Pasha, one of the orchestrators of the Armenian Genocide. Tehlirian’s actions were part of a covert operation known as Operation Nemesis, carried out by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, which sought to hold those responsible for the Armenian Genocide accountable.
Tehlirian was arrested; however, he was eventually acquitted by the German court.
