“Stop pressuring the people, they are already half of what they used to be”: residents of Ararat on the elections
The parliamentary elections held in Armenia on June 7 continue to be one of the most widely discussed topics in the country. In the opinion of residents of Ararat region, Pashinyan’s announcement of his victory before the final election results had been tallied put a certain kind of pressure on the Central Electoral Commission.
“Nikol declared his victory long before the vote count was finished. That meant that regardless of the vote tally, they had no intention of handing over power. But how could one act that way when only about 10 percent of ballots at polling stations had been counted?” one survey participant said in bewilderment.
According to residents of the region, the authorities are putting pressure on the people.
“People need peace. Stop pressuring people, they are already half of what they used to be, they are barely holding on. And on top of all this, we are told: do not say the word ‘Karabakh.’ But why? All my friends died there, I survived, and my friends are gone…” another survey participant emphasized.
