Armenian-populated towns of Lebanon are far from affected areas — Yeghia Tashjian

 
On September 17, hundreds of Hezbollah members in Lebanon suffered as a result of a cyber attack: their radio communication devices suddenly exploded. The incident took place in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Alpha News spoke with political scientist Yeghia Tashjian about this matter.

“About 4-5 hours ago, news broke about blasts in southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as in the suburbs of Beirut. The pagers that exploded apparently belonged to members of the Lebanese group Hezbollah. As Reuters reported, citing three unnamed sources, the pagers that exploded were new models that had been introduced into the group over the past month. There are many injured; according to the Lebanese government, their number has reached 2,003 people, and there are no more beds in hospitals, especially in Beirut and Bekka hospitals. Among the injured are also the son of one of the MPs and Iran’s ambassador to Beirut, Mojtaba Amani,” Yeghia Tashjian said.

Commenting on the Armenian regions, the political scientist stressed that the towns populated by Armenians are located far from the affected areas.

“This is the first time such cases have occurred in Lebanon. As for the victims, there are 8 dead. Armenian-populated towns are far from the mentioned places, but at the moment, all residents of the country are waiting for Lebanon to respond. For several days now, Israel has been fueling the war with its statements and provoking it to open a new front. However, if a war really starts, the Lebanese economy will be in complete decline, and we will all end up in a very difficult situation,” Tashjian concluded.
