Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Yevgeny Satanovsky commented on the prospects for the development of events around Armenia following the Pashinyan-Erdogan meeting.

“It is clear that Armenia is now moving away from the policy that Armenia and the Armenians inhabiting it, and not only it, have pursued over the past 300 years. It is moving in the other direction: to the United States, to the European Union, and to Turkey, which has been given all the opportunities to become ‘ağabeylik’ (elder brother) in the region because France and the United States are far away, but Turks are nearby. Well, it means that what has left of Armenia and the Armenians due to centuries of wars waged in Transcaucasia by the Russian Empire, then the Soviet Union, driven largely by everything that we have observed in the internal Armenian policy since the late 80s, should become part of the great Turkish empire. This is understandable. That’s what it’s all about! And everything else is secondary,” the expert said.

Commenting on the possibility of laying the so-called “Zangezur corridor”, the expert said that Armenia’s interests will not be taken into account in this project, and the Armenian leadership itself solves personal issues, not state ones.

“This is a major geopolitical project, and hardly anyone is interested in Armenia’s existence in the area along which this trade route should pass, but Armenia has decided to join these players. There are a lot of beautiful words on democracy, justice or injustice, corruption or non-corruption of certain politicians. The result is the subordination of Armenia to external players, and absolutely no one will be interested in what prospects and interests Armenia has. And the people who are in charge of Armenia will also be interested in their own affairs, as is happening in Ukraine now, and not in the future of Armenia as such,” Satanovsky concluded.
