French Armenian golfer competes under Armenian flag

French Armenian golfer Jean Bekirian participated in an international tournament under the Armenian flag.

Bekirian, 22, was ranked 10th in the tournament held in Tarragona, Spain.

Thanks to that result, Bekirian became the first Armenian qualified to compete in the prestigious DP World Tour.

“Words fail me to describe what I feel. I am very happy because my father, my mother and my caddy are there. My sister also came for the first two rounds. Their support is very important because I turned pro at the age of 16, very early, because I didn’t receive any help from my federation. Suddenly, I had to do everything alone, with my family and my team. So for me it’s a great success,” Golfplanete quotes Bekirian as saying.

Jean Bekirian has recently changed his nationality from French to Armenian.
