You cannot be magnanimous to Turks, they perceive it as weakness — Grigor Balasanyan

Today at a press conference, Nikol Pashinyan announced that Yerevan is ready to provide Baku with a railway freight transportation to Nakhichevan.

“We proposed that rail freight transportation from western Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan and back be carried out through the territory of Armenia via Meghri, since the restoration of the remaining sections of the railway with Azerbaijan (I mean Tavush) requires large investments. But on the same principle, from Yeraskh through Nakhichevan to Meghri,” he said and added that he hopes that Baku will accept this proposal.

Alpha News spoke with international affairs expert Grigor Balasanyan on this topic.

“The disguised implementation of the November 9 agreement is beginning. It is obvious that the unblocking of communications begins with the railway. We can only wait and see under what conditions this railway will operate and whether it will be under the jurisdiction of Armenia, or this is exactly what Turkey and Azerbaijan are proposing.

This is a direct threat to Armenia’s territorial integrity, since Aliyev notes in his speeches that Zangezur has nothing to do with Armenia. In other words, he says that they have no problems with the territorial integrity of Armenia, but they have not forgotten Zangezur. That is, Zangezur does not belong to Armenia. I would very much like us to be in a slightly different situation and for Aliyev to receive a tough response from Armenia,” the expert said.

The expert described everything that was happening as a dangerous game and warned that it was impossible to talk about peace with the Turks.

“This is a very dangerous game. You cannot talk about peace with the Turks. You cannot be magnanimous to the Turks because they perceive it as weakness, as the psychology of the defeated, and they want to get as much as possible from the defeated. Everyone wants peace, but not at this cost,” Grigor Balasanyan concluded.
