Any visit by Russian FM aims to improve relations – Andrey Klimov
Speaking with Alpha News, Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chair of Russia’s Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, commented on Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s working visit to Yerevan.
“Any visit by our Foreign Minister is aimed at improving our country’s relations with the states he visits. These relations can be different, which is precisely why the Minister travels. It is natural for a Minister to visit a state that is part of the CSTO, the CIS, and a member of the Eurasian Economic Union. How will the visit conclude? We’ll see. My forecasts are normal because, as a rule, such visits are prepared. And if there is a topic for discussion and the parties are in a constructive mood, there should be no surprises. In any bilateral format, with any country in the world, there will always be both difficult and easy questions,” Klimov said.
According to the senator, if Armenia turns away from Russia, the Armenian people are unlikely to have anything positive in the future.
“If Armenia, as a state, turns away from Russia for some reason, I don’t believe the Armenian people will have anything positive in the future, because it is in union with our state that Armenia can, in my opinion, develop in the best possible way. This is my personal opinion, and what specific political forces in Armenia think depends on the time, different things happen. The West has a desire to destroy our traditional ties, but these desires are dictated not by concern for Armenia but by how to destroy Russia,” Klimov concluded.
