Armenian leadership happy to surrender national interests, calling it achievement — Bogdan Bezpalko
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko commented on the reports that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will sign a peace agreement in Washington.
“This is exclusively in the interests of Trump, who consistently portrays himself as a global peacemaker and unifier. He claims to have reconciled India with Pakistan, Thailand with Cambodia, and now they are not allowing him to reconcile Ukraine with Russia. Why now? Maybe they are trying to do this under pressure from the United States, simply to improve Trump’s image. But in this case, Trump will win first, then Azerbaijan. And among the parties that will win the least or lose altogether, there will be Armenia and, to some extent, Russia, of course.
Armenia will surrender, so to speak, its interests, including granting permission for the ‘Zangezur corridor’ under the terms demanded by Azerbaijan and Turkey, while Russia will lose influence in the Caucasus region, will lose an extra road. The ‘Zangezur corridor’ will become an artery that not only cuts through Armenia and severs Russia’s connection to Iran, but also serves as a powerful channel for transporting resources and people to the Caspian region. In general, this will be the realization of the interests of Turkey, the United States and Israel in the Caspian region,” Bezpalko said.
The current Armenian authorities are surrendering all national interests, passing it off as their own achievement, the expert noted.
“The Armenian leadership is striking in that it surrenders its national interests with a smile and joy and at the same time presents all of this as a major achievement,” Bezpalko concluded.
