‘Trump Route’ will be one of elements of Azerbaijan’s plan B – Alen Ghevondyan

Under Aliyev’s leadership, a new national idea has emerged in Azerbaijan—the concept of “Western Azerbaijan,” for which all the country’s resources will be deployed, political scientist Alen Ghevondyan said in an interview with Alpha News.

“Given the current circumstances, the military option is seen as Plan B, part of which will be the so-called ‘Trump Route.’ This is a pre-signed document that, under international law, imposes no obligations on the parties. However, in public policy, Aliyev is using it as a tool, citing open railway routes, grain supplies, and other aspects,” Ghevondyan said.

Addressing Aliyev’s rhetoric, the political scientist emphasized that, from a political planning perspective, he acts very competently.

“Baku has approximately 150,000 Azerbaijanis who possess documents that provide legal grounds for their return to Armenia. And these aren’t just any documents—they’re cadastral certificates issued in Soviet Armenia. The Azerbaijanis who resettled from Armenia took these certificates with them. Therefore, Azerbaijan will now try to pursue legal claims against Armenia,” Ghevondyan added.
