Revising the Constitution of Armenia is one of the key domestic political issues. However, according to Areg Savgulian, a member of the HayaQve initiative, it may also be shaped by external influences that was stated in the interview with Alpha News.
“The Constitution is a document that concerns the internal affairs of any state, but in this case, the editing is clearly in line with the Azerbaijani and Turkish agenda,” he noted.
According to him, the goal of this process is to remove from the Constitution those provisions that, in the view of Azerbaijan and Turkey, are seen as challenging their territorial integrity. Savgulyan recalled that the Declaration of Independence of Armenia contains a number of key provisions to which, he claims, Baku and Ankara have objections.
“These provisions concern the reunification with Artsakh, the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and the strengthening the ties of Armenia with the Diaspora,” he added.
