Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan, head of the Russian and New Nakhichevan Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, has delivered a message on the occasion of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“April 24. Armenians around the world remember with sincere prayer and on bended knee our holy ancestors, the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, who received the crown of martyrdom in the name of faith, in the name of the Homeland.
More than one and a half million Armenians were killed on their own land, on the doorsteps of their own homes; they became refugees and orphans, stripped of shelter and Homeland.
We cannot renounce…
We cannot betray…
We cannot forget the innocent blood shed by our holy martyrs, their blessed memory, their demand for justice.
Therefore, we reject all who deny and question this Genocide, committed against humanity.
We reject all who falsify and consign to oblivion this greatest and most monstrous crime of the early century.
We reject them, because genocide is a crime against God, and it has no justification. We reject them in order to prevent new genocides such as those we witnessed in Sumgait and occupied Artsakh.
As a people demanding justice, as a testament to national dignity, as keepers of a sacred vow and of faithfulness, we must continue to make every effort toward the recognition of the Armenian Genocide,” Archbishop Yezras emphasized.
