There is not a single statement voiced by Ilham Aliyev that is not later echoed by the Armenian authorities. It is apparent that Azerbaijan exerts influence in Armenia, and the authorities are effectively complying with its demands and preconditions. Aghvan Vardanyan, a member of the Armenia faction, talked to journalists in Mergelyan Park in Yerevan.

The MP noted that Azerbaijan may claim to be moving toward peace while at the same time putting forward new demands—from constitutional amendments to the issue of the “return” of Azerbaijanis.

“Armenia is under pressure, while the military-political leadership of Artsakh and other detainees are effectively being held as hostages. Azerbaijan is present at a number of strategic points on our sovereign territory, and under such conditions, speaking of peace is, at the very least, questionable. At the same time, new demands are being put forward, ranging from changes to the Constitution to the issue of the return of Azerbaijanis,” Vardanyan concluded.
