Sergey Stankevich, political analyst, commented to Alpha News on the summit of the European Political Community, which is taking place these days in Yerevan.
“There is little to celebrate. It is important to understand why this summit is being held in Armenia and precisely now, it is, essentially, the arrival of a European ‘campaign team’ ahead of elections in Armenia. A similar European Political Community forum was previously held in Moldova, timed to coincide with elections, with the aim of supporting Maia Sandu,” the analyst said.
According to the expert, the European “campaign team” has come to Armenia to help Nikol Pashinyan secure re-election.
“Now the Europeans have done something similar to help Nikol Pashinyan get re-elected and maintain his party’s majority in the Armenian parliament. That is the practical goal. A great deal of rhetorical statements have been attached to this practical aim, but there is absolutely nothing behind them, and they will be forgotten within a month. Nothing significant has happened there,” Stankevich said.
