Vladimir Shapovalov, associate professor at the Department of Comparative Political Science at MGIMO, commented to Alpha News on the European Political Community summit held in Yerevan.
“The European summit in Yerevan will bring no benefit to Armenia. In this case, Pashinyan is quite cynically using the situation to demonstrate to his voters what he presents as pan-European support from European states toward Armenia. Where was that support when Armenia suffered defeat at the hands of Azerbaijan?” Shapovalov said.
According to the political analyst, the EU summit in Yerevan carries exclusively negative consequences for Armenia.
“This situation, beyond Pashinyan’s short-term electoral hopes, which I believe are unfounded, that this event will be able to boost his ratings in Armenian society, brings Armenia nothing but negatives. What is behind this? First and foremost, the natural deterioration of relations with Russia.”
