If Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wins the upcoming parliamentary elections, he will present the result as a referendum on Armenia’s withdrawal from the EAEU. Hayk Khalatyan, political commentator and editor-in-chief of Alpha News’ Moscow bureau, said this during a live broadcast on Alpha News.

“At the moment, relations between the Russian Federation and the European Union are quite tense. And when the EU says it views Russia as an enemy and is preparing for war with it, while Armenia is announcing its intention to join the EU, it is only natural that Russia would ask: ‘Are you going to join an organization that considers us enemies?'” he stressed.

According to Khalatyan, unfortunately, many in Armenia do not fully grasp what consequences all of this may bring.

“This will create very serious problems for our economy: tourist flows will drop significantly. And experience shows that it is impossible to find other markets capable of replacing the Russian one in a short period of time,” he concluded.
