Investigative Committee opens criminal case against Narek Karapetyan

A criminal case has been opened against Narek Karapetyan, a member of the council of the “Strong Armenia” party, by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
As the Investigative Committee reported, “on the basis of a report of an alleged crime received from the police of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that N.K. (Narek Karapetyan – ed.), a candidate nominated first on the list of the ‘Strong Armenia’ bloc for the upcoming June 7, 2026 elections to the RA National Assembly, having been warned of the liability prescribed by law in the event of providing false information, deliberately concealed information regarding the existence, or prior existence, of foreign citizenship, specifically, he submitted to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs a false declaration stating that he is not a citizen of another state, thereby concealing information about the possession of foreign citizenship that constitutes an obstacle to acquiring the status of a public official.”
“On the basis of the report, criminal proceedings have been initiated by the Yerevan City Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee under Part 1 of Article 449 of the RA Criminal Code (concealment of information obstructing the acquisition or retention of public official status).
A preliminary investigation is underway,” the statement reads.
