It was clear from the outset that the signed memorandum would prove rather fragile. This was stated by Zhanna Vardanyan, an Iran specialist, in a conversation with Alpha News. According to her, this obstructing factor was visible throughout the entire negotiating process.

“Under these circumstances, it is entirely expected that Iran will attempt to exert a certain degree of pressure and push for a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon. What we are seeing now is a postponement of the talks precisely against the backdrop of this demand, however, that does not yet mean the talks will not take place at all,” the expert noted.

In her assessment, some reduction in hostilities is possible, after which the talks would resume as has happened at previous stages.

“We are observing clear criticism of Israel’s actions, but that criticism has so far effectively failed to achieve its goal, since Israel has not, in practice, halted its military operations,” Zhanna Vardanyan concluded.
