The authorities want to take the last pennies from people: Shirak residents on price increase

The daily rise in prices in Armenia has created a difficult social situation, particularly for residents of the regions. In a poll, one resident of Shirak region noted that the government’s statements about increasing social support or pensions do not reflect reality, as the authorities take that money back out of citizens’ pockets through new taxes and price hikes.
“They raised pensions for retirees a little, provided benefits for displaced Artsakh residents and the elderly, and now they want to take those pennies right back through price increases and taxes. They want to squeeze the last pennies out of people,” one poll participant complained.
Those surveyed noted that there is not a single product on the market whose price has remained stable. Rising petrol and fuel prices trigger a chain reaction affecting all basic necessities.
“Name one thing that hasn’t gone up in price. Everything has gone up. Prices rise by 10 drams every day: cigarettes, water, coffee, oil… At first we don’t even notice. But even if we do notice, what can we do about it?” one respondent said in bewilderment.
